Our Club

Welcome to South West Queensland Thunder Football Club, the representative football club of the Darling Downs and South West region. 

Our mission as a club is to provide players from our region with a quality football and personal education that allows players to maximise their potential and play at the highest level possible.   

To do this we:

• Respect, value and support the geographic areas and communities that we represent;
• Have a clear focus on player development, creating skilful and knowledgeable footballers who are respectful and positive representatives of families and the club;
• Build strong relationships and partnerships with local schools and community clubs; and
• Provide opportunities for players to play at the highest level for our club, and to transition beyond our club to access higher level football pathways.

Our club appreciates our current and past volunteers, coaches, managers and board members that have all worked hard since our club was formed in 2012 to establish our club as a force to reckon with in the Football Queensland football pyramid. 

Many of the clubs that we compete against have been in existence for more than 50 years. It will take our club some time to mature as a club.  It will definitely help to secure our own home facility with the support of local and state government, hopefully at some stage in the near future.    

Our Board has a clear vision of where we need to be and what the club will look like 20 years from now.  The future will be built on a solid foundation provided by previous Board members and supporters.

Some of our strategic goals are to:

• Firming up our club's financial position so that we can invest in facilities, equipment and resources to support the ongoing development of players and coaches across the Darling Downs and South-West region;
• Continue to provide a broad range of football development and talent identification opportunities for players within our club and our local schools and community clubs throughout the Darling Downs and South-West region;
• Continuing to develop our football programs that contribute to our FQ Academy club assessment process, enabling players from our region to play at the highest level possible in the junior and youth football pyramid.
• Continue to lobby the Toowoomba Regional Council and the State Government to secure long term facilities and infrastructure to provide a permanent home for the club; and
• Increase the level of professionalism within our senior squad by providing benefits that offset our rival's significant player wage budgets.

We are fortunate to have the long term support of our various club sponsors.  Ongoing corporate support is critical for the future growth of the club, and we would love to hear from your business if you are interested in a sponsorship or strategic business partnership.

We will also need the continued help and support of our members to achieve these goals.  If everyone does a little, no one does a lot.  Our Board of Directors are also volunteers.  We are working with you, not for you, on the success of the club.  If you have ideas on how the club can move forward, please feel free to email chairman@swqthunder.com.

Our young club is still seeking a permanent home ground to call our own.  In the meantime, we share facilities with other community clubs to conduct training and matches. View Our Fields here.
